Enhancements in MAGic 11.0.1117 (April 2008)
The following reported items were addressed in this update. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in the update.
MAGic
- When installing a newer version of MAGic over an existing MAGic version, the MAGic EyeMerge application is also automatically updated.
- After creating application specific settings using MAGic, you can now quickly save these changes by opening the MAGic Context menu (MAGic Key+RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON) and then selecting command labeled Save X Settings, where X is the applications name, for example, Microsoft Word 2007.
- When Focus Enhancements is enabled, and you are using the mouse to navigate through a list, such as the All Programs submenu, MAGic now accurately speaks and highlights items in the list. Previously, highlighting was one item off from the spoken item.
- When authorizing MAGic with a hardware dongle, it is now possible to set MAGic to run at startup and it will recognize the dongle.
- When using a SAPI 5 synthesizer for Alternate SayAll, you can adjust the volume of the voice. This setting is saved as part of the voice profile.
.Net
- When running .NET applications, MAGic now correctly reads and highlights commands, submenus, and other selected items available in the application's menu bar.
Microsoft Excel
- When using the Spelling command in Excel, MAGic now correctly announces the title of the Not in Dictionary edit box, without mentioning the Ignore Once or Ignore All buttons.
- When running MAGic and JAWS together, JAWS now correctly reads all combo and edit boxes that appear in the Sort dialog box.
- When running MAGic and JAWS together, the options available for the Number Format edit box, located in the Ribbon Toolbar Home tab, are now read correctly.
- When using the Spell Checker, MAGic now reads the entry not in the dictionary without extra chatter.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
- The MAGic highlighting feature works properly when using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move through and read table cells in a Web page.
Microsoft Office
- When opening an Office document that contains images, MAGic now recognizes and magnifies all images. Previously, the graphics were missing and required a restart of the application in order to be seen.
- If an Office application fails, MAGic now reads the entire contents of the Document Recovery dialog box when the dialog gains focus.
- MAGic now recognizes all controls in the Options dialog of Office 2007 applications.
Microsoft Outlook
- After inserting a signature into an e-mail message when running JAWS and MAGic together, JAWS now returns focus to the message window – instead of the Signature button submenu – and announces the insertion of the signature.
- MAGic moves its focus to the correct field if you copy text from an e-mail message that you are composing, and then press SHIFT+TAB to move from the message window to the Subject field.
- As you navigate through folders in Outlook, MAGic now announces the number of unread messages in each folder.
- When the Spelling and Grammar dialog box is opened in an Outlook 2003 e-mail message, MAGic now announces and spells any misspelled words that appear in the Not in Dictionary edit box. Also, when pressing UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to move through words in the Suggestion list box, MAGic will announce and spell the suggested word.
- MAGic now correctly reads all header edit fields, such as To, CC, and Subject, when you e-mail a worksheet directly from Excel.
- MAGic now highlights during Say All when you set it to read messages automatically.
- MAGic now reads items in drop down lists without double-speaking.
- MAGic can now read items in the Profiles dialog without double-speaking.
- When you press SHIFT+TAB while on the message body, focus now goes to the Subject field as expected instead of the attachment list or document properties.
- Performance has been improved when navigating word by word on an email message.
- MAGic now announces the correct value in the Reminder Time field even when the Task Priority has been changed.
- MAGic can now read the items in the Address Book correctly.
- While using the Spell Checker, MAGic now notifies you when you reach a repeated word.
- MAGic now identifies all appointments in the Calendar regardless of their start time.
Microsoft Word
- While running Word 2007 on a Windows Vista system, MAGic now successfully announces both text in a document and items in the Apply Styles dialog box when switching between the two.
- If you are reading a Word document that contains comments, and the MAGic option Comments, Footnotes, and Endnotes Detection (MAGic Key+O) is enabled, MAGic correctly announces all comments in the document when pressing DOWN ARROW or UP ARROW to read by line.
- When reading Word document tables, MAGic can now read the contents of all cells in a row when pressing UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to move to the previous or next table row. To do this, you must change the new Document Presentation option – press MAGic Key+O and then D until the option appears – from Simple Layout to Screen Layout.
- When you configure the Column Titles Row Set option and the Row Titles Column Set option in a Word table, MAGic now retains the settings that you select in the Adjust MAGic Options dialog box (CAPS LOCK+O).
- Pressing CTRL+PAGE UP or CTRL+PAGE DOWN now honors the default functionality from the Word application.

- After closing MAGic, use of ClearType is now enabled, if it was enabled when MAGic was loaded.
Windows XP
- Focus Enhancement now follows the correct item while navigating the Start Menu with the mouse.
WordPad
